From Sky to Soil

Carl, an international airline pilot with over 30 years’ experience soaring above the clouds, always dreamed of a life grounded in nature. He envisioned owning a farm—a vibrant patchwork of multi-species pastures, framed by breathtaking scenery and sustained by life-giving water sources. His goal was clear: to raise animals with care, where he could trace their stories from birth to harvest, and nourish the community with chemical-free, nutrient-dense food. Through farm tours, he hoped to share this vision, educating and inspiring those who supported the land.

Wellness Meets the Wild

His wife, Caron who is a naturopath and homeopath, was less convinced. A city girl at heart, the idea of trading urban life for rural grit didn’t spark joy—until they found their piece of paradise. With the land secured, they built a humble tin shed and dove headfirst into their dream, fuelled by passion, not experience.

Starting with just 30 laying hens, they quickly scaled to 600 within a year, as the community couldn’t get enough of their rich, pasture-raised eggs.

Growing More Than Food

Their small Nguni herd grew from 5 to 40 head of cattle, currently thriving on carefully curated pastures. They welcomed pigs to the farm, whose natural rooting cleared unwanted weeds and by reseeding diverse, multi-species grasses, legumes etc. This now defines the landscape and what they now call Tin Shed Farm.

Living off the land, Carl and Caron pour their hearts into every sunrise and sunset, working tirelessly to steward the soil and animals. Through honest hard work and relentless perseverance, they’ve built more than a farm—they’ve created a legacy of health, sustainability, and connection. Join them on this journey, where every egg, every cut of meat, and every tour tells the story of a dream taking root.
